Dear Members of LTWO,
As we reflect on the past year, it is with pride and determination that I share with you the remarkable journey of LTWO in 2023. Our collective efforts and unwavering commitment to Irish forestry have led to significant achievements and impactful initiatives that have helped shape our industry.
Key Achievements of LTWO in 2023
● Advocacy for Ash Dieback Relief: Our advocacy efforts for ash dieback relief reached new heights, culminating in a National Conference that gathered industry leaders and policymakers to highlight the urgent need for emergency measures and compensation.
● Engagement with Stakeholders: We engaged with MEPs, local politicians, and industry representatives, amplifying our voices and advocating for support to address the critical challenges facing forest owners.
● Recognition and Progress: The publication of ‘The Ash Dieback Review Report’ validated our efforts, leading to increased recognition and support for our cause. The Minister’s commitment to set up a task force marked a step forward in addressing the crisis.
Month-by-Month Update
January: Setting the Stage for a Productive Year
The year kicked off with LTWO’s Ash Dieback Subcommittee building on previous campaigns, gearing up for what would become a high-profile year. The focus was on raising awareness and pushing for government action as the impact of dying trees became increasingly visible.
March: Advocacy and National Engagement
In March, LTWO organised a National Conference on Ash Dieback in Thurles, gathering industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders. The conference aimed to highlight the urgent need for emergency measures, compensation, and proactive strategies to address the crisis.
June: Advocacy Continues Despite Challenges
As the year progressed, Minister Hackett’s announcement of an independent expert review marked a pivotal moment. LTWO members actively contributed to the review, advocating for immediate action and solutions to the ongoing challenges faced by forest owners.
July: Engagement and Collaboration
LTWO members engaged with various stakeholders, including MEPs and local politicians, advocating for support and highlighting the critical issues affecting Irish forestry. The focus remained on amplifying voices and seeking meaningful solutions.
October: Progress and Recognition
